A Lorry Driver, also known as a truck driver or haulage driver, is responsible for transporting goods and materials using large commercial vehicles, such as lorries or trucks.
Job Summary: The Lorry Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of goods and materials using a lorry or truck. This role involves adhering to traffic laws, ensuring the proper loading and unloading of cargo, and maintaining the vehicle in good working condition.
Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Operation:
- Safely operate a lorry or truck to transport goods over short or long distances.
- Adhere to traffic laws, regulations, and safety guidelines.
- Loading and Unloading:
- Ensure proper loading, securing, and unloading of goods or materials.
- Verify and document the condition and quantity of goods before transport.
- Route Planning:
- Plan and determine the most efficient routes for transporting goods, considering factors such as traffic, weather, and delivery schedules.
- Time Management:
- Manage delivery schedules to ensure timely arrival at destinations.
- Communicate any delays or issues with dispatchers or logistics coordinators.
- Documentation:
- Complete and maintain accurate records, including delivery receipts, logbooks, and other required documentation.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and company reporting requirements.
- Vehicle Maintenance:
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the lorry, checking for mechanical issues, fluid levels, and tire conditions.
- Report any maintenance or repair needs promptly.
- Customer Service:
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with clients, warehouse staff, and other personnel during deliveries.
- Adherence to Regulations:
- Stay informed about and comply with local, regional, and national transportation regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety standards and industry best practices.
- Emergency Response:
- Respond appropriately to emergencies or incidents on the road, following established procedures.
Qualifications:
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with the appropriate endorsements.
- Proven experience as a lorry driver or in a similar driving role.
- Knowledge of road safety rules and regulations.
- Ability to operate and maneuver large commercial vehicles.
- Physical fitness and the ability to load and unload goods as needed.
- Strong communication skills and professionalism.
